To verify a therapist's license in New York, use the New York State Education Department's online verification search and match the clinician's name, profession, location, and registration status. NYSED says the service includes the original license date when available and offers a separate search for Regents disciplinary summaries. A matching record supports the license information shown on the date checked; it does not prove availability, fees, insurance coverage, or clinical fit.

Official NY therapist license lookup: step by step
- Open NYSED's Online Verification Searches page and choose the search for an individual professional.
- Search the clinician's name. If the name is common, use the profession and location to distinguish records.
- Match the profession and credential to what the clinician claims. A social-work credential and a mental-health-counseling credential are not interchangeable.
- Read the license and registration information shown by NYSED. Use its separate Regents disciplinary-action search when that history is relevant.
- Record the date of the lookup. Registry information can change, so an undated screenshot or badge is incomplete evidence.
