Verification: We check the state registry automatically, and again every day until it gives a clear answer. The registry must list your license as active under the name on your account. Your profile can go live once you approve it, showing your license check status and date (checked or pending). A failed check takes it down.
If the register shows no match, or the license as not active: the profile comes down and receives no license-check receipt. Membership does not cancel automatically; cancel before renewal if you do not want it to continue.

We check your license
We compare your details with the issuing authority's public record and date the result. Your profile can publish once you approve it and shows the check as pending until the result comes back. The license number is how we check, and it is printed on the receipt.

A profile is not done until your practice site links to your Couch Commons receipt.

What a listing here is

A profile that carries a dated receipt from your state board, not a badge you were handed.
An equal turn among every matching therapist, reshuffled daily by a published fair-rotation rule. Nobody sits above you by paying.

What it will never be

Placement for sale. There is no boost, no featured tier, no ad slot.
A lead broker. Your details, and your clients' details, are never sold or rented.
A promise of clients, referrals, search position, revenue, or return on membership.
A hostage. If you leave, your public page comes down. Record retention and deletion follow the limits stated in the Privacy page.
A place that publishes a negative about you. If a re-check stops matching, the profile pauses while we sort it out.

Your practice, your links, your people

Direct destinations

Your profile can point directly to your website, booking page, email, or phone. Couch Commons does not relay a seeker’s message. Your dashboard shows best-effort daily link totals—not people, leads, contacts, or individual click histories—and direct links keep working when counting does not.

Your content remains yours

Link writing that already lives on your website, or publish a reviewed article here under your own name. You choose which site keeps the search credit—the canonical owner—for each article. Linking your site back to your record finishes your profile and never changes your position in search results.

A peer roster you control

Choose up to eight currently listed clinicians for “Who I would refer you to.” You can change or remove the list. Nobody can buy a place, Couch Commons does not select it, and no referral fee changes hands. The page identifies the list as your statement.

Group practices without fake sameness

A practice can list and pay for several clinicians from one account. Each clinician still has one profile, one license identity, and their own dated license check. The practice approves each profile, or the clinician does when they have their own sign-in. Nobody borrows another person’s verification, and a group brand never stands in for a clinician.

Live office hours for the business of therapy

Matthew Sexton, LCSW facilitates at least one live member session each month. Active members see the next date and private event link inside their dashboard. Sessions cover independent-practice operations, responsible AI workflows, content, and online visibility.

Clear boundaries

Capacity is 20 members, first come. Dates are posted at least seven days ahead; changes are posted in the member dashboard. Sessions are not recorded. Do not bring client-identifying information. Office hours are peer education—not therapy, clinical supervision, legal advice, individualized compliance advice, emergency support, or a promise of business results.

The receipt does the selling. You just have to be real.
