The Division of Consumer Affairs describes it as a real-time system with the most current professional license information, intended for verification only, and it has separate Person and Business searches. A matching result supports the recorded license status on the date checked; it does not establish care quality, availability, insurance participation, or an interstate practice privilege.

- Open New Jersey's MyLicense verification service.
- Choose Person Search. Business Search covers licenses issued to a business, not the individual providing therapy.
- Search by name and narrow the result using the profession or licensing board.
- Match the credential and status to the clinician's public claim.
- Record the lookup date and link to the state result or search service. Do not treat a directory badge as a substitute for the state source.

Compact membership is not an automatic privilege
The Counseling Compact lists New Jersey as a member state. As of September 23, 2026, the compact says privileges are live only for licensees in Arizona, Minnesota, and Ohio. Membership alone does not prove that a particular clinician holds a privilege to practise in another state.
