Couch Commons is a directory of licensed therapists. Every published licence is checked against the issuing state's own registry, and the receipt for that check sits on the profile with the date and the registry printed on it.
Who runs it
Matthew Sexton, LCSW, founded the company and runs it. His licence goes through the same check as every other member's, and the receipt is on his profile.
Why it exists
The charter is five promises: one human per profile, verified means checked and dated, no paid placement, your inquiry is not a lead, and leaving is whole. The site exists to keep them. Directories in this category sell placement, which is how a search ends up returning people who stopped practising years ago. With placement off the table, the ordering can be a rotation, the receipt can carry a date, and the conversation can stay between the two people having it.
How it is funded
The model is clinician-funded: membership is $19.99 a month, and that is the whole revenue. No advertising, no lead selling. The site is the whole product, so there is nothing to sell around it.
What it will not do
- Sell placement, boosts, or a featured tier.
- Run ads, sit in the middle of a conversation, or hand anyone a lead.
- Publish a licence number, or a negative about a clinician.
- Keep a clinician's page after they leave.
